Dr Paul Quinn
Monday 18 November 2024, 5:30 – 7 p.m., room L06 / Teams
Bishop Otter Campus, University of Chichester
To mark the 50th anniversary of Tom Baker’s first appearance as Doctor Who, Paul Quinn from the Chichester Centre of Fairy Tales, Fantasy and Speculative Fictions will discuss the Gothic and its place in Baker’s career. Addressing the Gothic as both a general synonym for ‘horror’, but also more specifically in relation to Gothic fiction, Dr Quinn will analyse incidents of the Gothic across a range of texts associated with Tom Baker, including Doctor Who, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Silver Chair, and Baker’s two works of fiction The Boy Who Kicked Pigs and Doctor Who: Scratchman. Part of this paper is drawn from Dr Quinn’s ongoing research on Protestant fantasy.
Free and open to all.
